Trincomalee Technical Institute

International Sustainable Livelihood Foundation (ISLF)
Project Summary
Project Title Trincomalee Technical Institute
Project Location Gopalapuram, Trincomalee
Objectives To establish a Technical Institute in Trincomalee that would provide opportunity to the G.C.E. A’ Level qualified students from the Northern and Eastern Provinces and the conflict affected adjoining districts to earn a 2-year diploma (associate degree) in business management
Project Concept Over 300,000 GCE O/L and GCE A/L qualified students, on an annual basis, are not able to continue their education because of limited places in the Sri Lankan universities. Opportunity to pursue technical education (diploma level) in the Northern and Eastern Provinces is very limited as most private institutions offering such education are located in Colombo. Consequently a majority of the youths in the Northern and Eastern Provinces remain unemployed or under employed. There is an increasing demand for trained personnel in the areas of business management, and information technology both locally and internationally. Technological education will create skilled personnel for domestic industries and foreign job markets. Establishing a technical institute in the Eastern province of the country can bring multiple benefits and help build the economy of the region and contribute to the overall economic and social development of the country.
